Campsis radicans (Trumpet Creeper Vine)

Seed Treatment (Stratification & Scarification)

  1. Cold Stratification:

    • Place seeds in a damp paper towel inside a plastic bag.

    • Store in the refrigerator for 30–60 days to improve germination rates.

    • Check periodically to ensure the towel remains moist.

  2. Scarification:

    • Lightly rub seeds with sandpaper or nick the seed coat with a knife to allow moisture absorption.

    • Soak in warm water for 24 hours before planting.

Planting Instructions

  1. Sowing Time: Best started in early spring after stratification or indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost.

  2. Soil Preparation: Use a well-draining, rich soil mix with compost for best results.

  3. Sowing Depth: Plant seeds ¼ inch (6 mm) deep in moist soil.

  4. Temperature & Light: Keep soil at 70–75°F (21–24°C) for optimal germination. Provide indirect sunlight.

  5. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.

  6. Germination Time: Expect sprouting in 2–4 weeks under ideal conditions.

  7. Transplanting: Once seedlings have 2–3 sets of true leaves, transplant outdoors in a sunny location with support for climbing.

Additional Tip: Trumpet Vine is a vigorous grower, so plant in a spot where it can spread freely or use containment strategies like root barriers.

Happy planting! ??
