Seed Treatment (Stratification & Scarification)
- Cold Stratification:
- Place seeds in a damp paper towel inside a plastic bag.
- Store in the refrigerator for 30–60 days to improve germination rates.
- Check periodically to ensure the towel remains moist.
- Scarification:
- Lightly rub seeds with sandpaper or nick the seed coat with a knife to allow moisture absorption.
- Soak in warm water for 24 hours before planting.
Planting Instructions
- Sowing Time: Best started in early spring after stratification or indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost.
- Soil Preparation: Use a well-draining, rich soil mix with compost for best results.
- Sowing Depth: Plant seeds ¼ inch (6 mm) deep in moist soil.
- Temperature & Light: Keep soil at 70–75°F (21–24°C) for optimal germination. Provide indirect sunlight.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.
- Germination Time: Expect sprouting in 2–4 weeks under ideal conditions.
- Transplanting: Once seedlings have 2–3 sets of true leaves, transplant outdoors in a sunny location with support for climbing.
Additional Tip: Trumpet Vine is a vigorous grower, so plant in a spot where it can spread freely or use containment strategies like root barriers.
