COLD STRATIFICATION TECHNIQUES

If seeds germinate while cold stratifying, here's what you should do:
(see link below)

Don’t leave them in the bag too long

Once seeds start germinating (you'll see tiny roots or shoots), they need light, air circulation, and appropriate growing conditions—not the cold, moist, dark environment of the fridge.

Do this instead:

  1. Carefully remove the germinated seeds using tweezers or your fingers.

  2. Transplant them into small pots or seed trays filled with moist, sterile seed-starting mix.

  3. Place them under grow lights or in a bright windowsill—keep them warm (usually 18–21°C / 65–70°F) and lightly moist.

Tips:

  • Handle the sprouted seeds gently to avoid damaging the tiny root (radicle).

  • If multiple seeds sprouted at different stages, you can continue stratifying the rest and check daily for more.
