COLEUS
1. Timing:
-
Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost for earlier growth.
-
You can also sow them directly outdoors after all danger of frost has passed.
2. Soil Preparation:
-
Use a light, well-draining seed-starting mix.
-
The soil should be moist but not soggy.
3. Sowing the Seeds:
-
Do not cover the seeds—Coleus seeds need light to germinate!
-
Simply press them gently into the soil surface.
-
Space seeds 1–2 inches apart if sowing in trays.
4. Watering & Humidity:
-
Mist the soil lightly with water to keep it consistently moist.
-
Cover with a humidity dome or plastic wrap to maintain moisture.
5. Temperature & Light:
-
Keep in a warm spot at 70–75°F (21–24°C) for best germination.
-
Provide bright, indirect light or place under grow lights for 12–16 hours daily.
6. Germination:
-
Seeds typically germinate in 7–14 days.
-
Once seedlings appear, remove the humidity dome and ensure proper airflow.
7. Transplanting:
-
Once seedlings have 2–3 sets of true leaves, transplant them into individual pots or garden beds.
-
Space plants 10–12 inches apart in the garden.
8. Growing Conditions:
-
Keep in partial shade to full shade
-
Water regularly, but avoid waterlogging.
