Cortaderia selloana (Pampas Grass)

Seed Treatment (Preparation Before Sowing)

  1. Pre-Soaking

    • Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 12–24 hours to speed up germination.

    • Drain and allow them to dry slightly before sowing.

Sowing Instructions

  • Best Sowing Time: Spring to early summer (when temperatures are consistently warm).

  • Seed Depth: Do not cover with soil—seeds need light to germinate.

  • Soil: Well-draining, sandy or loamy soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH (6.0–7.5).

  • Light Requirement: Full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day).

  • Moisture: Keep soil moist but not waterlogged during germination.

  • Temperature: Germination occurs best at 70–85°F (21–29°C).

  • Germination Time: 14–30 days.

Aftercare & Transplanting

  • Once seedlings are 3–4 inches tall, thin or transplant them to their final location.

  • Space plants 6–8 feet apart for full growth.

  • Pampas grass is drought-tolerant once established but benefits from deep watering during the first year.

  • Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
