Cymbalaria muralis (Kenilworth Ivy)

Seed Treatment (Pre-Planting Preparation)

  • Cold Stratification: 2–4 week cold stratification (mixing seeds with moist sand and refrigerating at 35–40°F / 2–5°C).

Sowing Instructions

  • Best Planting Time: Spring or early autumn for best germination.

  • Soil: Well-draining, light, sandy or loamy soil, with a slightly alkaline to neutral pH.

  • Light Requirement: Full sun to partial shade. Prefers some shade in hot climates.

  • Planting Depth: Surface sow (do not cover with soil, as seeds need light to germinate). Press seeds gently into the soil.

  • Spacing: 6–12 inches (15–30 cm) apart.

  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy until germination occurs.

Germination & Aftercare

  • Germination Time: 1–3 weeks at temperatures between 60–70°F (15–21°C).

  • Watering Routine: Water regularly, especially in dry periods, but allow soil to dry slightly between waterings.

  • Fertilization: Generally not needed; grows well in nutrient-poor soils.

  • Growth Habit: A trailing, spreading plant that self-seeds readily and can grow in walls, cracks, or as ground cover.

  • Pruning: Trim back if it becomes too invasive.

With minimal care, Kenilworth Ivy will provide delicate purple flowers and attractive foliage throughout the growing season! ??
