Hyssopus officinalis (Hyssop)

Fragrant. Medicinal. Bee-friendly.

Seed Prep & Treatment

Cold Stratification: Place seeds on a damp paper towel in a ziplock bag in the fridge for 2–4 weeks.
Check weekly. If seedlings emerge in the bag, plant immediately in soil.
Advanced gardener: GA3 (Gibberellic Acid) may improve germination but must be used cautiously. Use very diluted solutions (50-250 ppm) for no more than 24 hrs. Incorrect use can kill seeds.

When to Sow
Start indoors 6–8 weeks before your last frost date.
Sow from late winter to early spring.

Germination Conditions
Time to germinate: 14–30 days (after stratification)
Ideal temperature: 18–21°C (65–70°F)
Light requirement: Use grow lights to maintain 12–16 hours of light per day.

Sowing Instructions
Sow on surface or lightly press into soil. Do not bury deeply – seeds need light to germinate.
Keep soil moist but not wet. Use a spray bottle or humidity dome.

Post-Germination Care
Transplant when seedlings have 2–3 sets of true leaves.
Harden off gradually before moving outdoors.
Choose a spot with full sun, well-drained soil. Avoid soggy roots.
Hyssop is drought-tolerant once established but benefits from occasional deep watering.
Pinch back young plants to encourage bushier growth.
Attracts pollinators and is deer resistant. Great for borders and herb gardens!

Important Notes
• GA3 only if you're experienced
• Indoors > outdoors for best success
• Stratify using damp paper towel in fridge
• Plant emerged sprouts right away
