Seed Preparation
- Pre-Soaking: Soak seeds in warm water for 4–6 hours before sowing to help speed up germination.
When to Sow
- Outdoors: After the danger of frost has passed (spring).
- Indoors: 6–8 weeks before the last frost date.
Optimum Germination Temperature
- 18–21°C (65–70°F)
Germination Time
- Typically 10–21 days
How to Sow
- Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Avoid soggy spots.
- Location: Full sun is ideal for best blooms.
- Sowing Depth: Lightly press seeds into the surface of moist soil. Do not cover—light helps germination.
- Spacing: Thin or transplant to 15–20 cm (6–8 in) apart.
Watering
- Keep soil evenly moist during germination.
- Once established, water sparingly—Candytuft prefers drier soil over soggy conditions.
Post-Germination Care
- Transplant indoor seedlings outdoors after the last frost and once hardened off.
- Deadhead faded flowers to prolong blooming.
- Suitable for beds, borders, and containers. Attracts butterflies!
Notes
- Annual variety – reseeds readily.
- Great for cut flowers and cottage gardens!
