Also known as the Blue Jacaranda, this subtropical beauty produces vibrant lavender-blue blooms and fern-like foliage.
Seed Treatment
Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours.
Cold Stratification:
Store seeds in a moist paper towel inside a sealed bag in the refrigerator for 2–3 weeks before sowing.
If seedlings emerge during this period, remove them gently and plant immediately.
Optimum Temperature
Maintain a temperature of 21–27°C (70–80°F) for best germination results. Use a heat mat if growing indoors in cooler conditions.
Maximum Germination Time
Seeds usually germinate in 2–6 weeks, but can take up to 56 days. Be patient and keep the soil moist throughout the process.
Light Requirements
Do not bury the seeds. Sow them on the surface of the soil and press gently to ensure contact. They need light to germinate.
Sowing Instructions
Use a well-draining mix such as seed-starting soil or a blend of coco coir and perlite. Mist to keep evenly moist—not soggy.
Post-Germination Care
Once seedlings emerge:
• Move to a bright, warm location with indirect sunlight.
• Transplant when the seedling has 2–3 sets of true leaves.
• Water when the top inch of soil feels dry.
• Gradually acclimate young plants to outdoor conditions if planting outside.
Spacing & Growth
Jacarandas are fast-growing trees that reach 5–15 meters (15–50 feet) tall. Space accordingly if planting in-ground. Suitable for containers when young.
Climate Note
Frost-sensitive! Grow outdoors only in USDA Zones 9–11 or overwinter indoors in cooler zones.
