Kalanchoe laxiflora | Milky Widow's Thrill

A drought-tolerant succulent with fleshy bluish leaves and coral bell-shaped flowers—perfect for sunny windows or outdoor pots in warm climates.

For optimal germination rates, initiate seed propagation indoors under controlled conditions—unless the species exhibits a high sensitivity to root disturbance. This approach allows precise regulation of temperature, humidity, and light, improving germination consistency and seedling viability. Do not skip any recommended seed treatments, as they are essential for uniform and successful germination.

Sowing Method
Start indoors in seed trays or shallow pots. Use a well-draining, STERILE, gritty succulent mix or a cactus soil blend. Lightly press seeds into the surface or use a folded paper to sow evenly. Mist gently.

Humidity: Use a humidity dome or clear cover to maintain consistent moisture during germination. Open the dome BRIEFLY once per day to allow fresh air in and reduce mold risk. Remove the dome entirely once seedlings emerge.

Optimum Temperature: Use a heat mat to maintain steady temperatures of 22–26 °C (72–79 °F)

Germination Time: 14 to 40 days

Light Requirements
Use grow lights to maintain 12–16 hours of light per day.. Once germinated, move to a sunnier position gradually. Avoid harsh midday sun on tender seedlings.

Watering
After germination, water sparingly. Allow soil to dry slightly between waterings. Kalanchoe is highly sensitive to overwatering—ensure excellent drainage.

Post-Germination Care
When seedlings have at least two sets of true leaves, transplant them into individual pots. Choose small containers with drainage holes and continue growing in bright light.

Growth Notes
Kalanchoe laxiflora is a slow-growing succulent. Mature plants prefer full sun to partial shade and require minimal care. Protect from frost.
