Planting guides for Annuals, Biennials, Perennials, Shrub & Vine seeds can be found at:
https://bloomoutlet.com/seed-guides/
Please read BOTH the seed guide and the PLANT SPECIFIC sowing instructions. If you are unsure of the best way to germinate the seeds, DO NOT SOW ALL THE SEEDS. Keep some in case the germination method you use doesn’t work.
Cold stratify ALL perennials, shrub & tree seeds for at least 30 days unless the plant specific instructions indicate a longer period.
If you are not ready to plant the seeds, keep it in the refrigerator (not freezer).
OXALIS TRIANGULARIS | PURPLE SHAMROCK
Plant Specific Instructions (Read “Seed Guide” as well): Select a regular porous, well-draining potting soil. Consider amending it with perlite and peat to maintain slight moisture while ensuring proper drainage and aeration.
Place a few rhizomes in a pot filled with your soil mix. Plant them approximately 2-4 centimeters (1-2 inches) apart and 1-2 cm (1 inch) deep.
Water lightly every couple of weeks until new growth emerges. Initially, sprouting may occur slowly but will accelerate over time.
Ensure the pot has drainage holes in the bottom to prevent waterlogging, as lack of drainage can lead to plant death.
Care Instructions:
Water: Water every 1-2 weeks, allowing the top 2 centimeters (1 inch) of soil to dry out between waterings. Ensure the pot has proper drainage. Adjust watering frequency based on light intensity.
Light: Thrives in bright indirect to bright direct light conditions.
Humidity: Tolerates various humidity levels, with normal room humidity being suitable.
Temperature: Maintain temperatures above 60°F (15°C) to prevent cold damage.
Fertilization: Apply a slow-release fertilizer blend once a month during the growing season.
Pruning: Pinch off any dead or discolored foliage as needed.
Propagation:
To propagate Oxalis, wait until the following season to separate the rhizomes.
Winter Care:
During winter, Oxalis enters a dormant phase. Towards late fall, when the foliage loses its vibrancy, clip off all foliage and place the potted plant (with bulbs still in the soil) in a cool, dark, and dry location such as a shed or cellar to protect it from freezing temperatures. Oxalis is not winter-hardy and won't survive cold winters outdoors.
With proper care, the plant will emerge from dormancy in spring. Provide it with light watering and sunlight, and it will reawaken.
