Potentilla nepalensis (Nepal Cinquefoil)

Seed Treatment:
Cold stratification: Place seeds in moist sand or paper towel, seal in a plastic bag, and refrigerate at 35–40°F (1–4°C) for 2–4 weeks
• Seeds are very small — do not bury deeply

When to Sow:
Indoors: Start seeds 6–8 weeks before last frost after stratification
Outdoors: Sow directly in late fall or early spring for natural stratification

Light Requirements:
• Grows best in full sun to partial shade
• More compact and floriferous in full sun

Soil Requirements:
• Prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil
• Tolerates sandy or rocky soils
• pH range: 6.0–7.5

? Sowing Instructions:
Surface sow or press lightly into soil — seeds need light to germinate
• Use grow lights to maintain 12–16 hours of light per day.
• Keep soil evenly moist during germination
• Ideal temperature: 60–70°F (16–21°C)
• Germinates in 14–40 days

Humidity: Use a humidity dome or clear cover to maintain consistent moisture during germination. Open the dome BRIEFLY once per day to allow fresh air in and reduce mold risk. Remove the dome entirely once seedlings emerge.

Watering:
• Keep soil moist during germination
• Once established, water moderately; drought tolerant when mature

Spacing:
• Thin or transplant to 12–15 inches (30–38 cm) apart

Growing Tips:
• Produces charming, 5-petaled blooms
• Blooms from early to mid-summer
• Excellent for cottage gardens, borders, and pollinator-friendly landscapes
• Attracts bees and butterflies
• Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8
