RUBUS GLAUCUS - ANDEAN RASPBERRY, MORA DE CASTILLA



Sowing Instructions (Cliff Notes Version): Requires stratification and is best sown in early autumn in a cold frame. Stored seed requires one month of cold stratification at approximately 38 F (3 °C) and is best sown as early as possible in the year. Prick out the seedlings when they are large enough to handle and grow on in a cold frame. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring of the following year. Botanical Name: Rubus glaucus

Common Name: Mora de Castilla, Andean Raspberry, Anden-Brombeere, Andes Berry

Type: Deciduous climbing shrub

Fruit: Fruits are a bit over an inch long (3 cm) and start out as green, turn red then dark purple when ripe. The berries have vitamin C, calcium, and phosphorus, making them suitable for juices, jams, jellies, ice cream, pastries and more.

Plant Height: 10 feet (3 m)

Light Requirements: Full Sun or Semi shade

Water Requirements: Average

Soil Requirements: Well drained, loamy soil

USDA Zones: 9-11. Will tolerate occasional, short-lived temperatures down to 14F-23F (-5 and -10°c)
