Seed Treatment
- Soak seeds in warm water for 4–6 hours before planting to soften the seed coat and encourage quicker, more uniform germination.
Sowing Instructions
- When to Sow:
- Outdoors: Sow directly into the ground in late spring to early summer, when soil temperatures are at least 60°F (16°C) and the danger of frost has passed.
- Indoors: Not commonly started indoors, but you may start seeds 2–3 weeks early if necessary and transplant when the weather is warm.

- Sowing Depth:
- Sow seeds ¼–½ inch (6–12 mm) deep.
- Lightly cover with soil and firm gently.
- Watering:
- Keep soil evenly moist until seedlings emerge.
- Once established, Setaria italica is drought-tolerant and needs only occasional watering.
