Begonia incarnata (Metallic Leaf Begonia)

Seed Treatment
To prevent mold or fungus, soak seeds in a 1% hydrogen peroxide solution for 5 minutes, then rinse with distilled water.

Light Sensitivity
Begonia seeds need light to germinate – do not cover with soil.

How to Sow

  • Use a fine, well-draining seed-starting mix (peat + vermiculite/perlite).
  • Avoid heavy or compacted soil.
  • Lightly mist the soil before sowing – it should be damp, not wet.
  • Use bottom watering or mist gently with a spray bottle to avoid disturbing the seeds.
  • Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
  • Gently sprinkle seeds on the surface. Do not press down or bury.

Humidity & Light

  • Cover with a clear lid or humidity dome.
  • Place under bright, indirect light or use grow lights (12–16 hrs/day).

Optimum Temperature

Maintain 75–78°F (24–26°C) day & night. Avoid temperature drops.

Watering
Mist lightly or use bottom watering to keep soil evenly moist, never soggy.

Germination Time
Typically in 1-3 months. Sometimes longer. Patience is key!

After Germination

  • Slowly remove the dome to acclimate seedlings.
  • Keep in bright, indirect light.
  • Transplant when 2–3 true leaves appear.
