Seed Treatment
To prevent mold or fungus, soak seeds in a 1% hydrogen peroxide solution for 5 minutes, then rinse with distilled water.
Light Sensitivity
Begonia seeds need light to germinate – do not cover with soil.
How to Sow
- Use a fine, well-draining seed-starting mix (peat + vermiculite/perlite).
- Avoid heavy or compacted soil.
- Lightly mist the soil before sowing – it should be damp, not wet.
- Use bottom watering or mist gently with a spray bottle to avoid disturbing the seeds.
- Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
- Gently sprinkle seeds on the surface. Do not press down or bury.
Humidity & Light
- Cover with a clear lid or humidity dome.
- Place under bright, indirect light or use grow lights (12–16 hrs/day).
Optimum Temperature
Maintain 75–78°F (24–26°C) day & night. Avoid temperature drops.
Watering
Mist lightly or use bottom watering to keep soil evenly moist, never soggy.
Germination Time
Typically in 1-3 months. Sometimes longer. Patience is key!
After Germination
- Slowly remove the dome to acclimate seedlings.
- Keep in bright, indirect light.
- Transplant when 2–3 true leaves appear.
