Surface Sterilization (Optional) – To prevent fungal infections, soak seeds in a diluted hydrogen peroxide solution (1% concentration) for 5 minutes, then rinse with distilled water.
Light Sensitivity – Begonia seeds need light to germinate, so do not cover them with soil.
Sowing Instructions:
Choose a Well-Draining Substrate:
Use a fine-textured seed-starting mix with good aeration.
A mix of peat moss, vermiculite, and perlite works well.
Avoid heavy or compacted soil.
Moisten the Soil:
Lightly mist the soil with water before sowing.
Avoid overwatering; the medium should be damp but not soggy.
Sow the Seeds:
Sprinkle the tiny seeds on the surface of the soil.
Do not cover them with soil or press them down.
Provide Humidity & Light:
Cover the seed tray with a clear plastic lid or use a humidity dome to maintain high moisture levels.
Place the tray under bright, indirect light or use grow lights (12–16 hours daily).
Optimal Temperature for Germination:
Keep the temperature between 70–75°F (21–24°C).
Avoid temperature fluctuations, as it can slow germination.
Watering:
Use bottom watering or mist gently with a spray bottle to avoid disturbing the seeds.
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Germination & Growth:
Germination Time:2 weeks to 3 months under optimal conditions. (Sometimes longer)
After Germination:
Remove the humidity dome gradually to acclimate the seedlings.
Keep seedlings in bright, indirect light.
Transplant when they have at least 2–3 true leaves.
