Buddleja syn. Buddleia commonly known as Butterfly bush, Summer lilac, Orange ball tree, Orange eye are evergreen, semi-evergreen, and deciduous shrubs, sometimes trees and climbers, and a few herbaceous perennials, from riversides, rocky areas, and scrub in Asia, Africa, and North and South America. They are cultivated for their panicles of small, tubular, usually showy, fragrant flowers, and sometimes for their lance-shaped opposite leaves. All except the climbers are suitable for a mixed or shrub border, or as specimens. Where not hardy, grow in a cool greenhouse. Often self sows and seeds are dispersed by wind. Low maintenance. Provides excellent summer to fall flowers when few other shrubs are in bloom.
