Eschscholzia also known as California Poppy, Golden Poppy, California Sunlight, Cup of Gold are slender, erect, annuals and perennials from grassy, open habitats in W. North America. They have finely divided, fern-like, light to blue green foliage. Solitary, semi-double or double, shallowly cupped, paper thin, 4 petaled (rarely 5-8 petals) of poppy like flowers in an array of colors bloom from spring or summer. Showy flowers are approx. 3 in. (7cm) in diameter. The plants close in rainy, windy or cloudy weather and at night. Eschscholzia californica or California Poppy is the state flower of California. Self seeds. Low maintenance and easy to grow. Generally pest and disease free.
