Seed Treatment
- Seeds are very small and delicate. For best results:
- Soaking: Soak in lukewarm water for 1–2 hours to soften the seed coat and speed up germination.
- Important: Seeds require light to germinate — do not cover them with soil.
Sowing Instructions
- When to Sow:
- Indoors: Start seeds 6–8 weeks before the last expected frost.
- Outdoors: Direct sow in late spring, once soil has warmed and all danger of frost has passed.
- Soil Requirements:
- Prefers light, sandy, well-draining soil.
- Tolerates poor or dry soils.
- Ideal pH: 6.0–7.5 (neutral to slightly acidic/alkaline).
- Light Requirements:
- Needs full sun (6–8 hours of direct light daily) for vibrant blooms and compact growth.
- Sowing Depth:
- Surface sow — scatter seeds on top of pre-moistened soil and press gently into the surface.
- Do not bury; they need light to germinate.
- Watering:
- Use a fine mist to keep the surface evenly moist until germination.
- Once established, plants are very drought-tolerant and prefer drier conditions.
- Germination Time:
- Typically germinates in 7–14 days at 70–75°F (21–24°C).
- Spacing:
- Thin or transplant seedlings to 6–12 inches (15–30 cm) apart once large enough to handle.
