Nicotiana commonly known as Tobacco plant, Flowering tobacco, Woodland tobacco, Tree tobacco are erect annuals, biennials, perennials and semi evergreen shrubs from Australia, North America and tropical South America. They grow on mountain slopes and valley floors, often in moist soils. The flowers are tubular or trumpet shaped, highly fragrant, sweet scented and flowers over a long period in summer and sometimes in autumn. The blooms usually open only in the early evening and at night; flowers of some cultivars remain open during the day if planted in partial shade. These popular evening bloomers are visited by hawkmoths and other pollinators. Self sows.
