Origanum vulgare (Oregano, Wild Marjoram)

Seed Treatment:
Soak seeds in warm water for 4–6 hours
• Seeds are tiny and need light to germinate, so do not cover deeply

When to Sow:
Indoors: Start seeds 6–8 weeks before last frost
Outdoors: Sow directly in late spring when soil has warmed

Light Requirements:
• Thrives in full sun
• Can tolerate partial shade, but flavor and aroma are stronger in full sun

Soil Requirements:
• Prefers well-draining, light soil
• Tolerates poor and rocky soil
• pH range: 6.0–8.0

Sowing Instructions:
Surface sow or barely press seeds into soil
• Keep soil lightly moist until germination
• Germination temperature: 65–75°F (18–24°C)
• Germinates in 7–14 days

Watering:
• Water lightly and regularly during germination
• Once established, water sparingly — oregano is drought-tolerant

Spacing:
• Thin or transplant to 12–18 inches (30–45 cm) apart

Growing Tips:
• Aromatic perennial herb used in culinary dishes, teas, and oils
• Harvest leaves once the plant is 6–8 inches tall

• Can be grown in containers, herb gardens, or borders
• Attracts bees and beneficial insects
• Hardy in USDA Zones 4–9
