Perennial vine | Fast-growing climber | Stunning fall color
Seed Treatment (Before planting)
Step 1: Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours.
Step 2: Place soaked seeds on a moist paper towel, fold, and seal in a labeled ziplock bag. Refrigerate at 4°C (39°F) for 8–13 weeks (60–90 days). Check weekly — if seeds sprout early, gently transplant into soil.
When to Sow
Indoors: Sow in pots after stratification, late winter to early spring (February–April).
Outdoors: Sow in autumn (October–November) in a prepared seedbed for natural stratification.
Germination Temperature
20–25°C (68–77°F)
Germination Time
30–150 days after stratification
Light Requirements
Requires light to germinate. Do not cover seeds deeply.
Use grow lights to maintain 12–16 hours of light per day.
How to Sow Indoors
Surface-sow seeds on moist, well-draining seed-starting mix. Press seeds in gently but do not cover. Keep soil evenly moist.
Humidity
Use a humidity dome or clear cover to maintain consistent moisture during germination.
Open the dome briefly once per day to allow fresh air in and reduce mold risk.
Remove the dome entirely once seedlings emerge.
Post-Germination Care
Transplant seedlings once they have 2–3 sets of true leaves. Harden off gradually before moving outdoors.
Final Spacing: 90–120 cm (3–4 ft) apart
Plant Type: Vigorous perennial vine
Mature Height: Up to 15 m (50 ft) with support
Growing Tips: Thrives in full sun to partial shade. Adaptable to a wide range of soils. Provide a trellis, fence, or wall for climbing. Tolerates drought once established. Excellent for covering unsightly structures or creating living walls.
