Seed Treatment (Stratification)

  • Mix the seeds with a small amount of moist sand and place them in a sealed plastic bag.

  • Refrigerate at 35–40°F (2–5°C) for 3–4 weeks before sowing.

  • After stratification, allow the seeds to come to room temperature before planting.

Planting Instructions

  1. Sow Indoors (Best Method)

    • Use a well-draining seed-starting mix with added perlite or sand.

    • Do not cover the seeds—they need light to germinate. Just press them gently into the soil.

    • Keep soil moist but not soggy by misting gently.

    • Maintain a temperature of 60–65°F (15–18°C) for germination.

    • Seeds germinate in 2–4 weeks but may take longer if conditions are not ideal.

  2. Direct Sowing (Optional)

    • Best sown in fall or early spring after a period of natural cold stratification.

    • Choose a partially shaded area with well-draining, moist but not wet soil.

    • Lightly press seeds into the surface without covering them.

    • Water gently to keep soil moist during germination.

Post-Germination Care

  • Once seedlings appear, provide bright, indirect light (or artificial grow lights).

  • Keep soil evenly moist but avoid overwatering.

  • When seedlings have 2–3 true leaves, transplant carefully into larger pots or outdoors.

  • Ideal growing conditions: cool temperatures, partial shade, and well-draining, moist soil.

  • Mature plants prefer rock gardens, borders, or containers and may bloom the following year.
